Have you visited the Ocean City Free Public Library StoryWalk® lately? Our StoryWalk® always has a book displayed to share and you can visit anytime at your convenience at Lake Memorial Park (407 Wesley Ave, Ocean City).
If you have never seen a StoryWalk®, it is simply another way to experience a picture book. It's an activity that incorporates reading, moving, and nature (which is a great combination for young children!).
To create a StoryWalk®, we take apart a children's book, laminate the pages, and display them on signs throughout the park. Readers can then enjoy the story as they walk around the park, reading each page of the book as they move from sign to sign.
After reading the story, make sure to scan the QR code for our scavenger hunt! Children can look around the park to find pictures of characters or objects from the book. This is also a great opportunity to retell or discuss different elements of the story with your child.
Fall is a great time to visit our StoryWalk®! Not only can children enjoy a literacy-based activity, they can observe seasonal changes in the park as well. Our current book, "In A Jar" by Deborah Marceno, is a beautiful story of shared experiences and friendship, whether near or far! Spend some outdoor time together this fall and check out our StoryWalk® at Lake Memorial Park!
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier Vermont. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
